Oral implantology is firmly linked to surgical and prosthetic components.

Worldwide, oral implantology is often a specialized discipline in the field of dentistry or medicine. Interestingly, there are also countries where both qualifications are required to practice oral implantology.
Dental implantology is an increasingly complex specialty of dental medicine, consisting of real and virtual planning and surgery, which only leads to functional and aesthetic success in combination with further excellently performed dentistry and thus to the satisfaction of the patients.
Here, the long-term success for the practitioner and the patient is the primary objective.
The German Council of Oral Surgery and Implantology (GCSI) joined forces to meet the ever-growing needs of implantology, standardize training worldwide, and set quality standards.

The CDI certificate, issued by GCSI, shows a high standard in international implantology education combined with a subsequent academic degree in implantology and oral surgery.
However, the aim of the GCSI is also that the successful graduates of the GCSI stand out from the differently trained colleagues, in order to represent a prominent position opposite to others.
This certificate is a special distinction towards the patients and thus a not inconsiderable advertising factor.
Certification by GCSI thus leads to patient protection, but also as a vetting instrument for local licensing and health administration agencies with oversight responsibilities for health professionals in their jurisdictions.

Here, the fair and demanding final examinations across regions and nations and cultures provide an excellent basis for a successful and future-oriented implantology in the country of the delegates.
The satisfactory attainment of these goals made an international certification process a realistic possibility. In keeping with one of the most cherished goals of the GCSI, “to promote the improvement of quality and safety of health care world wide through the advancement of patient care, education and research in oral Surgery and Implantology”, GCSI elected to support the creation of a scientific board.
The German Council of Oral Surgery and Implantology was founded to define an international standard for starters and specialists in oral Surgery and Implantology
This first group of senior lecturer of the new organization was appointed to develop an operational infra-structure and a process of certification. Through its certification and re-certification process, it will provide a mechanism to distinguish practitioners who have achieved and maintained a level of expertise as defined by a global standard and not an individual perception or company education.

The postgraduate further education of the GCSI corresponds to the quality criteria of the consensus conference implantology in Germany (KK) as well as the criteria of the academy for practice and science (APW) as well as German Federal Chamber of Dentistry (BZÄK).
Through its cooperation with the internationally operating International Medical College IMC (Germany) and thus with many other German state universities, GCSI has a university-affiliated important network in the area of oral surgery and implantology.
Participants who have passed through the curricular structures of the GCSI and have undergone a one-year scientific advanced training program with successful completion of a written (multiple-choice) and oral examination, have the advantage of a guaranteed place in the study program approved by the German Accreditation Authority with the degree "Master of Science in Dental Surgery and Implantology (M.Sc.)
This takes place in English both as a full-time and part-time master’s program.
In doing so, the services provided in the GCSI curriculum are recognized resulting in a reduced length of study time in the Master's degree program (MSc) and reduced tuition fees.
